The Working Committee of Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya met last saturday and decided support Massive protest campaign by the UNP.
The first stage of the series of massive protests campaign will be held at 2 pm at Lipton’s Circus on Tuesday (29) followed by a public rally at Hyde Park which is demanding the release of Former Army Commander General Sarath Fonseka and demanding the stoppage of the expropriation of private companies will be held with the participation of a massive crowd on the 29th at the Hyde Park. The day has been named as a National Day of Protests and we expect the support of everyone irrespective of party, race, religion or cast.

The Opposition United National Party (UNP) yesterday announced plans to launch a series of mass protests against the continued incarceration of Gen. Sarath Fonseka, the breakdown in law and order, the acquisition of private business institutions and the denial of relief to the common man in the last budget.The first mass protest in the planned campaign will be held at 2 pm at Lipton’s Circus on Tuesday (29) followed by a public rally at Hyde Park.
The UNP has invited other opposition parties also to participate in this protest and according to UNP sources Mrs. Anoma Fonseka and DPF leader Mano Ganesan have already confirmed attendance.
Moves to woo the JVP are also continuing though no finality has been reached in the discussions, the sources said.
UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe summoned the party’s MPs and provincial councilors representing the Western province last week and asked them to ensure maximum participation of supporters in their respective constituencies in Tuesday’s protest.
He had said that UNP representatives who perform exceedingly week will be given priority in filling vacancies that arise in the party structure.
