CEB to resort to work to rule over 45 percent salary hike

Protest-Logo2CEB workers’ union say that they will resort to ‘work to rule’ from midnight  (Jan 18) demanding a 45 percent salary hike instead of the 25 percent increment promised by the government.

Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) workers have commenced a work to rule trade union action from midnight yesterday stating that their salary increment by the Government is insufficient.

Member of the Operations Committee of the Joint Trade Union Forum of the CEB Ranjan Jayalal said that they would resort to serious action if a favourable response is not received in this regard.

The trade unions did not agree to the Government’s decision to increase the salaries of employees of the Water Supply and Drainage Board, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the Ceylon Electricity Board by 18 percent.

Accordingly, the Government decided to increase their salaries 25 percent last Tuesday.

This decision was arrived at a discussion held between the representatives of the ministerial committee appointed to review the salaries of these employees and the President.

However, the trade union stated that they do not agree  to this salary increase too.

The trade union held a protest demanding for a salary increase last afternoon.
