The UNP protesters gathered at the Fort Railway Station are calling for salary increase and for a reduction in the cost of living. They also attacked a pro government cut out.

The United National Party requests the general public to put up black flags at their residences and places of work and to express their objection against the fuel price hike and the current cost of living.
Deputy General Secretary of the UNP Parliamentarian Jayalath Jayawardena made this request at a media briefing which was held in Colombo today.
He also stated that a national protest campaign will be held on the 17th of this month in Colombo with the participation of the opposition including the UNP.
Several other political party leaders including Leader of New Sama Samaja Party Dr Wickramabhahu Karunarathna, and Leader of Democratic Peoples Front Mano Ganeshan participated at the media briefing.
UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera stated that the JVP and TNA have also been invited for the protest on the 17th.

UNP summons a massive protest against the govt
United National Party (UNP) has planned a massive protest against the government on February 17, says the UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake. A mass meeting is to be held opposite the Colombo Fort railway station at 3 p.m. on February 17. The protest is mainly against the recent increase of fuel prices y the government. The UNP demands the government to revoke the fuel price hike.
