UNP Gampaha District parliamentarian Jayalath Jayawardene is to be named the President of the party’s trade union wing – the Jathika Sevaka Sangamya on Monday amidst objections from the reformist group. Top JSS officials confirmed that Dr. Jayawardene would be named as the president at the working committee meeting of the trade union on Monday. Referring to the allegations made by some pro reformist members of the trade union, JSS sources said nothing illegal had been done as all members of the union had been notified about the meeting.
He said some of the pro reformist members were not notified as they had ceased to be members of the union after they had left their jobs. ‘All members have to be employed according to the constitution of the Union therefore they cease to be members when they stop working. Some pro reformist members of the JSS had threatened legal action saying they had been sidelined by the party.
