JSS President Dr.Jayalath urges CPU against govt.’s new legislations

jayalath_common_wealthParliamentrian and President of the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya Dr. Jayalath Jayawardene, on behalf of the UNP of which he is the deputy general secretary, has urged the Commonwealth Parliamentary Union to immediately take up the Sri Lankan government’s attempt to suppress and oppress opposition MPs by bringing new legislations. He has sent a letter secretary general of the CPU Dr. William F. Shija, accompanied by an appeal by MP Dr. Mrs. Anoma Gamage, which he said is self-explanatory.

Noting that the new legislations are nothing but an act of political revenge, Dr. Jayawardena said, that type of action by the Lankan government would definitely violate the Commonwealth principals.

He urged that the secretary general to take up the matter with the CPA president and bring it to the notice of the executive committee of the CPA.

Dr. Jayawardena said he would also bring the matter to the notice of the IPU.
