Parliamentrian and President of the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya Dr. Jayalath Jayawardene, on behalf of the UNP of which he is the deputy general secretary, has urged the Commonwealth Parliamentary Union to immediately take up the Sri Lankan government’s attempt to suppress and oppress opposition MPs by bringing new legislations.He has sent a letter secretary general of the CPU Dr. William F. Shija, accompanied by an appeal by MP Dr. Mrs. Anoma Gamage, which he said is self-explanatory.

The Leader of the UNP Ranil Wickremasinghe has once again been appointed as the Chairman of the Asia Pacific Democrat Union of the International Democrat Union.

Provincial Councilor Daya Gamage and UNP National Organizer Ravi Karunanayake lashes out at the government over the introduction of Assets and Acquisitions Bill.

Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe says that one cannot assume that the economy is doing well by looking at the stock market.Wickremesinghe expressed this view at a function held at the auditorium of the Centre for Banking Studies of the Central Bank in Rajagiriya on 13 Oct 2011 .The second  national congress of the National Trade Union Federation was held with the participation of UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe on 13 Oct 2011 Among those present was the Minister of Labour and Labour Relations Gamini Lokuge.

UNP Gampaha District parliamentarian Jayalath Jayawardene is to be named the President of the party’s trade union wing – the Jathika Sevaka Sangamya on Monday amidst objections from the reformist group. Top JSS officials confirmed that Dr. Jayawardene would be named as the president at the working committee meeting of the trade union on Monday. Referring to the allegations made by some pro reformist members of the trade union, JSS sources said nothing illegal had been done as all members of the union had been notified about the meeting.

The UNP’s senior Parliamentarian and Deputy General Secretary Dr Jayalath Jayawardena will take over the Presidency of the UNP affiliated Trade Union, the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya today.

The UNP trade union wing The Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya (JSS) of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation(CPC) is prepared to present facts for the investigation to the Bribery and Corruption Commission on the import of substandard petrol, at any given moment."They believe the Bribery and Corruption Commission will conduct a transparent investigation in regard to the incident, Secretary of JSS Ananda Palitha said.
